UniFi Cloud Gateway Max - Tips & Tricks

Hardware

1. Turn on Device Fan Manually

The UGC MAX has a built-in fan that can be manually activated to help with cooling. Looks like the fan doesn't turn on automatically until the device reaches a certain temperature which is quite high. There are many reports of the device reaching 90C or higher. This is particularly useful in warmer environments or when the device is under heavy load. To turn on the fan manually, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the UniFi Network Controller.
  2. Navigate to the Settings > Control plane > Console > Enable SSH (Set/Change Password for ssh login).
  3. Use an SSH client to connect to the UGC MAX using its IP address and the password you set.
  4. Once connected, enter the following command to turn on the fan:
    echo VALUE > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/pwm1
    # Where VALUE is a number between 0 (off) and 255 (full speed).
